i managed to fix the picture, and it's all working, but when i tried saving it, it was saved as a .bitmap, but my computer didn't recognize it as a picture, so i couldn't add it to the doc file… how do i convert it to a .bmp or .jpg file?
is there another way?

Either use the fancy code that will be supplied in the recitation (a code which employs Python's PIL package), or
simply display the picture on your screen (with IDLE and the matrix.py file), and use Windows (or MAC OSX) utilities to do a screen shot of the image (do not forget to crop parts not belonging to the image).
If I get the final picture manually from a screenshot like you suggested, but its pixel dimensions are differing in 1-2 pixels from the "real" matrix representation dimensions, will it suffice for the testing?
