I just want to make sure I get the restrictions right:
Am I forbidden to use the decimal base as an intermediary stage during the calculation? (without using python built-in functions of course) Can I not convert even mere chars of A and B strings (using my own code, not built-in) during my calculation process?

you are not allowed to use the decimal base as an intermediate stage during the calculation.
Moreover, you are not allowed to use int() at all, not even in order to convert "A" to a decimal value (if that's what you meant).
